Consult for Impact is an experiential learning opportunity that encourages the application of theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. Non-profit organizations and social start-ups will have the opportunity to receive pro-bono consulting services. Our business students are passionate about providing meaningful impact and want to apply their consulting skills, tools, and methodologies to advance the mandate of organizations.

A group of 15 advanced undergraduate psychology students will work with your non-profit organization on a short-term project that fulfills a current need for your organization (e.g., providing a literature review and recommendations, creating a survey, etc.).

Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.Students in this course critically evaluate the scientific literature about health policies and “knowledge gaps” wherein a call to action recommends the scientific community to respond with further research and policy engagement. They gain skills to analyze and synthesize information from lectures, readings, media and video links, in order to examine, critique, analyze and apply their learning. This cohort will focus on the topic of food insecurity and nutrition literacy in K to 12 education in Ontario.

Students from UofT are keen on getting hands on experience in the Biotech industry. These Genetics stream students are well versed with all the latest tools of gene and genome editing and some double major in Statistics or Neuroscience. There is no strict limit on the group size, it could also be individual students or groups of students. In addition, it could be a summer project that involves more hours.

3rd and 4th year undergraduate business students working in 3-5 person teams will conduct research to develop a plan for a negotiation challenge faced by your organization, stakeholders, and/or clients. They can conduct background research on the market and propose multiple equivalent simultaneous offers based on the issues to be discussed during your negotiation. Sample areas can be Real Estate Purchases, Automotive Purchases, factory plant purchases, etc,

3rd and 4th Year business undergraduates specializing in Human Resources from the University of Toronto will work in teams of 3-4 students to make virtual synchronous team presentations. Students will conduct qualitative (e.g., job evaluation, benefits, aligning new job descriptions into the existing compensation structure) and/or quantitative analyses (e.g., statistical analyses on pay data for market pay analyses or company's internal equity analyses) using industry data along with data provided by your organization.

1st year Masters students in accounting and finance in the Masters of Management of Public Accounting (MMPA) at the University of Toronto, Mississauga will work in teams of 6 to conduct research on an industry and develop recommendations on how/whether to invest in the industry.

3rd and 4th year undergraduate business students working in 3-5 person teams will conduct research to develop an actionable strategy to solve a leadership development challenge faced by your organization, stakeholders, and/or clients. For example, they can design leadership training programs incorporating the latest virtual and in-person designs and gamification ideas. Example topics are stress management, communication skills, negotiation skills, giving feedback, goal setting, managing teams, leading change.

Students will create encapsulated multimedia projects for partner organizations' outreach efforts geared toward mental health and mental health treatment options in various Canadian populations.

A group of third-year psychology students will work with you to design an effective survey that will enable you to collect meaningful data from your population of interest and assess the outcomes that are important to you.

Students will work in small teams on consulting projects. Many of the students are finance and economics students so projects that use their skills in that area are particularly welcome.

Our Actuarial Science Specialist Program is an accredited program under the Canadian Institute of Actuaries University Accreditation Program. Our programs are also recognized as a Centre of Actuarial Excellence under the Society of Actuaries Centers of Actuarial Excellence (CAE) Program. In 2019, we received the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) University Award for "the innovative and exemplary ways" our program is preparing students for their career. Students in our Actuarial Science program come with a variety of skills sets and experiences. As part of their degree requirements, students in our Actuarial Science Specialist program are required to complete a minimum 420 (full time, continuous) hours - this usually translates into a standard 4 month opportunity. Students may be available for longer, depending on your project and organizational requirements. Students have spent the past year adapting to online development, and are comfortable taking on new challenges remotely.
