1st year Masters students in accounting and finance at the University of Toronto will work in teams of 4-6 to conduct research on an industry (market research, hedge accounting, M&A research, ) and develop recommendations on how/whether to invest.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

A 15 min oral presentation with a slide deck, appendix and speaking notes for the employer. Employer will need to attend presentations (in person/virtually), and ask questions and provide brief oral feedback. Student teams will answer questions posed by employers re: data and future steps of recommendation

1. Is this an attractive industry? What is the evidence showing it is attractive? What is the evidence showing it is not?

2. How will we define/measure ‘attractiveness’? What are the issues with these measurements/definitions of attractiveness?

3. What explains why the industry is attractive? What explains why the industry is not attractive?

4. What future actions will promote make it more attractive for investment? What future actions will overcome the obstacles for the industry’s growth?

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

attend virtual or in person presentations of student groups, ask questions and/or provide feedback to students about their presentations

Be available for a quick phone/zoom call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project

Be available to attend live presentations (virtual/in person) and ask Q&A/give feedback
